Man hits hammer on woman holding newborn

A Marshalltown man is charged with aggravated domestic assault and child endangerment without injury after he allegedly hit a woman in the head with a hammer while she was holding their newborn baby.

Terry D. Jordan, 43, was arrested Friday, for the alleged assault on the 3000 block of South 12th Street.

Capt. Brian Batterson, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said Jordan and the victim were arguing. During the argument the victim, his child’s mother, threw a glass of water on him. After that Jordan assaulted her, then took the child and left.

The victim was sent to the hospital where she was treated and released that day. Jordan met police with the baby on the 800 block of Iowa Avenue West. The baby was injured and was taken to crisis care.

Jordan was taken to the Marshall County Jail.

Woman throws urine on hospital employee

A Marshalltown woman who threw urine on a hospital employee was charged with assault on a healthcare worker Friday.

Bridget M. Miller, 42, was causing a disturbance in the parking lot of Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, 3 S. Fourth Ave. and was then taken inside for treatment.

According to police, Miller was upset of life in general. She was taken back to the emergency room to help her cope with her issues. While she was being treated she was asked to give a urine sample. As she was giving the employee the sample she instead threw it.

After Miller has received treatment she will be taken to jail.

Assault on a healthcare worker is a serious misdemeanor.

Van Allen Gentry, 201 S. Second St. Apt. #1, made an initial appearance on an arson charge and a burglary-second degree charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 8. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.

Jose Gutierrez-Aguilera, 112 N. 10th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 16. Gutierrez-Aguilera was released on his own recognizance.

Shelby Lynn Peak, of Grinnell, made an initial appearance on a possession of methamphetamine charge. The public defender’s office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 16. Peak was released on her own recognizance. The court ordered that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today’s date.

Dustin Glen Ferneau, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a damage to vehicle charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today’s date.

Brandon Schmidt, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a striking unattended vehicle charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today’s date.

Scott Holm, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a unlawful passing of a school bus-first offense charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days of today’s date.

James Walker, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a tinted windows charge and a failure to have a valid driver’s license charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 1 p.m. on May 27 in Magistrate Court.

Amy Stienntta Rees, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a delivery of methamphetamine charge. The court appointed Scott Hunter as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 16.

On Thursday, Crystal Dawn Gassman, 1207 Highview Drive, reported the theft of an Apple iPhone 5S while at school. Estimated value of loss was $700.

On Thursday, Brandi Jo Sawyer, of Liscomb, reported the theft of a Dell Inspirion 15 inch touch screen laptop computer and bag from a vehicle while parked at Marshalltown Community College, 3700 S. Center St. Estimated value of loss was $900.
