13th-ranked Bobcats rally past Dodgers in league tilt
FORT DODGE – The Marshalltown boys’ soccer team got another wake-up call on Friday night.
But this time, instead of losing like it did against Des Moines Hoover, the Class 3A 13th-ranked Bobcats rallied and came through with a big road win in a Central Iowa Conference Northern Division battle.
Martin Chavarria and Ellis Buchwald each scored goals in the final 20 minutes as Marshalltown improved to 10-1 on the season with a 2-1 victory over the Dodgers.
The match was scoreless until the 60th minute when Fort Dodge took a lead off a nice header. Buchwald set up Chavarria for the tying goal and then delivered the game-winner when he dribbled through a host of defenders and put it past the Dodger keeper.
The Bobcats (10-1, 2-0) next travel to Southeast Polk to take on the Rams on Tuesday. Varsity action from Pleasant Hill begins at 7:30 p.m. Southeast Polk is receiving votes in the latest 3A poll.
