Spartan boys win South Hardin Invite

ELDORA – Jarrett Stoner rallied from a four-game deficit to capture the singles championship and lead the Grundy Center boys tennis team to the title at the South Hardin Invite Saturday.

Stoner fell behind 9-5 to South Hardin’s Micah Dorow in the title match before coming back to force a tiebreak. Stoner won the tiebreaker 10-7 to claim an 11-10 victory. Stoner cruised past South Tama’s Andrew Peters, 10-1, in the opening round before topping Dike-New Hartford’s Mitchell Samec in a semifinal, 10-5.

Grundy Center’s Ethan Hogle and Dalton Haverkamp teamed up for a 10-4 rout over South Tama to top the doubles field. South Hardin’s Josiah Dorow joined Ben Stanish to capture the third-place match, 11-9, over the Spartans’ Kieryn High and Daniel Talbot.

Grundy Center hosts Iowa Falls-Alden today at 4:15 p.m. before traveling to Dike-New Hartford Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and Aplington-Parkersburg Thursday at 4:15 p.m. South Hardin travels to South Tama Thursday at 4:15 p.m.
