MHS girls get one win in trip to Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE – Returning singles state champion Jaci Cochrane was nowhere to be found in the Dodgers lineup.

There was no need.

Winning 21 of 24 sets, Fort Dodge rolled past the Marshalltown girls tennis team for a 10-1 victory here Monday.

Kathleen Ferrin posted the Bobcats’ only victory with a 2-6, 7-5, (11-9) triumph at No. 4 singles as the Dodgers claimed the other five singles matches in straight sets.

Ellen Podhajsky and Immaculate Edwin also won a set for Marshalltown but came up short at No. 5 doubles as Taylor Shirbroun and Emma Bruen came back for a 2-6, 6-1, (10-6) victory.

Ashley Beaty picked up six games in a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Ayenna Cagaanan at No. 3 singles, while Beaty and Kathleen Ferrin did the same in a 6-3, 6-3 setback at No. 2 doubles. The Bobcats’ No. 5 duo of Jenna Jaeckel and Samantha Tocheri took five games in a 6-2, 6-3 loss as Fort Dodge didn’t surrender more than two games total in any of the other six matches.

The Bobcats (1-5) continue their busy week by hosting Ames today at 4 p.m.
