Cinco de Mayo Carnival fundraiser a success

The Cinco de Mayo Carnival fundraiser on May 2 was a big success! Thank you to everyone who volunteered and we had MANY volunteers – volunteering time, talents, items, food, games, sound system, traffic safety, port-a-potties, etc. Thank you to JBS, Service Master, Tye’s Touch Tree Service, AAA Septic Service Inc., Marshalltown CERT volunteers, and the Hispanic Ministry of St. Mary’s.

We especially want to thank Perkins for their donation of pies and our local celebrities who volunteered to take a pie in the face to help us raise money: Rev. Gregg Davison of Trinity Lutheran Church Marshalltown and House of Compassion’s president; Karen Frohwein, House of Compassion’s director; Paul Gregoire, vice-president of Global Human Resources at Fisher Controls Division – Emerson Process Management; Jim Lowrance, Marshalltown mayor; Monsignor Jim Miller of St. Mary Catholic Church; and Shannon Naughton of Service-Master and a House of Compassion board member.

And, thank you to all the families who came out with their children to play the carnival games, eat a meal, and enjoy a beautiful evening with us. Our carnival/pie-in-the-face fundraiser was able to raise $2,800 for the House Soup Kitchen. Last year the House of Compassion served over 18,700 meals and with the funds raised will be able to continue to meet this need in spite of donations being down.
