Crystal City comes home for album release party
Members of the group Crystal City will have two things to celebrate during their show in Marshalltown Saturday.
The group, led by local natives Sam Drella and Dave Helmer, will play an album release party at JDs Pub. The event also doubles as a 20th anniversary party for JDs Pub.
“I’m pretty excited to be a part of their 20th anniversary and putting this record out is kind of a big deal,” Helmer said. “We love playing at that bar.”
Drella and Helmer previously released an acoustic album and this new album, titled “Change” mies some acoustic with some “loud rock ‘n roll,” Helmer said.
“We’ve had three reviews of the album already,” Helmer said. “The three reviews we’ve received have been really nice.”
The couple currently lives in Iowa City and typically schedules shows at the bigger cities in Iowa.
“Right now we are playing the Iowa circuit,” Helmer said. “In the future, we plan to start hitting all of the major cities in the Midwest.”
“Change” CDs will be available for $10 at the show.
Helmer said they plan to play about five or six acoustic songs and about 10 electric songs on Saturday night.
The Marshalltown rock band Jordan and the Nomads will start the night off at 9 p.m. followed by Iowa City’s The Sapwoods and then Crystal City as the headliner. Crystal City expects to hit the stage at approximately 11 p.m.
The show is for 21 and over and is free. For more information on the band visit www.crystalcitymusic.com.
