TRACK & FIELD: Rose, Zeisness to double up for Tigers at state meet
DIKE – South Hardin senior teammates Tim Rose and Bryce Zeisneiss both advanced to the Iowa State High School Track and Field Championships in two events Friday but each had to wait a few hours after the meet to find out.
Not scoring an automatic qualifiers at the district meet, the Tigers were left waiting to see the at-large list.
And when it was all said and done, Rose will compete in the state meet in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs after a third- and fourth-place finish, respectively. Zeisneiss also advanced in both the discus and shot put.
Rose finished with the third best state qualifying time but also was third in his own district in the mile as he crossed the line in 4 minutes, 32.25 seconds. He had the 11th best qualifying time in the 3,200 with a 10:06.10.
Zeisneiss will be making his fourth state appearance in the discus after his fourth-place district finish featured a throw of 151 feet, 9 inches. That was the eighth best throw overall. He also finished fourth in the shot put and 22nd overall with a toss of 45-2.
Trojans, Mustangs add one at-large berth each
The rival Trojans and Mustangs will each have one more entry at the state meet this week.
West Marshall’s Nick Juel will be in the 2A long jump field for the second straight year after placing fourth at districts. His jump hit 20-3 and was the 17th best leap overall.
East Marshall will add another relay to the state meet. Having already qualified automatically in the distance medley Thursday, the Mustangs also will run in the 4×800.
That team includes Caleb Benzing, Nick Meling, Josh Benzing and Ben Terrones and their third-place finish at districts was the seventh best qualifying time overall. The foursome hit the line in 8:18.63.
