Fort Dodge blanks ’Cats on Senior Night
The Bobcats’ best chance at a win came against one of the state’s most established players.
Regardless of pedigree, the Marshalltown boys’ tennis team couldn’t find an answer for any of the Dodgers in an 11-0 loss to Fort Dodge on Senior Night Monday.
Three-time state qualifier Brian Murman defeated Kalei Platt 6-4, 4-6, (10-6) at No. 1 singles as the Dodgers claimed the rest of their wins in straight sets.
Marshalltown’s No. 5 tandem of Adam Willman and Connor Overstake took seven games in a 6-3, 6-4 loss, though Fort Dodge didn’t surrender more than four games in any other doubles match of the Central Iowa Conference Northern Division dual.
The Dodgers didn’t lose a game at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles, while sacrificing just one at No. 6. Beau Ragland managed five games in a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Ben Ahlers at No. 5.
Monday’s makeup meet ended the season for the Bobcats (3-8, 0-2), though they’ll serve as host of a substate tournament Saturday at 9 a.m.
