SPORTS SHORTS: Trojan soccer ends long losing streak
TAMA – South Tama/East Marshall’s 10-match losing streak is over.
And the Trojans recorded their first win of the season that was not by forfeit Monday when they jumped out to a 3-0 lead against PCM and held on to beat the Mustangs, 3-2.
Araceli Angel scored her third goal of the season in the 55th minute, and Kloey Fairall and Guadalupe Nunez added their first tallies of the season in the win.
“I am very proud of the girls,” said STC/EM coach Bob McBain said. “The win was long coming, but it was a solid win for this team.”
Fairall gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead when she put the ball past the PCM keeper off a deflection in the 29th minute.
Angel’s shot gave STC/EM (2-13) a 2-0 lead, which grew to 3-0 just 3 minutes later when Nunez got it past the Mustang goalie. PCM (2-10) trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the 66th minute after a penalty kick.
The Mustangs made things interesting in the final 3 minutes when they scored on a breakaway to make it 3-2.
The three goals scored by the Trojans were the most for the program in two years.
“This was a victory that we have been working for,” McBain said. “The play from everyone was solid.”
Samantha Earley and Hanna Keckler once again shared time in goal for the Trojans. Early stopped three shots and Keckler sent back four Mustang tries.
South Tama/East Marshall will next host CAL on Thursday and the Trojans close out the regular season with Senior Night against Union Community on May 27.

Former Bobcat players also will assist the current players and coaches with the camp instruction. Campers are asked to furnish their own equipment but extra rackets will be available.
The two-day camp will cost $30 but after June 17 the price raises to $40.
