World War II vet speaks to Noon Optimist

The Marshalltown Noon Optimist Club met at the Y Cultural Center Thursday with Jane Jech presiding. Jane opened with the pledge of allegiance and invocation. Upcoming events include a fishing derby on June 7 and Junior Golf Competition on June 19.

The speaker was Ken Main, a 96-year old World War II Veteran, who spoke of his many memories and stories from his days in ROTC, OCS in New Jersey, and in the Philippines. Ken was raised in Searsboro, Iowa where he graduated 80 years ago.

He went on to further his education at Iowa State University where he joined the ROTC program. After his active duty, Main returned to Iowa and served as the Marshalltown Water Works Director for more than 25 years. His humor and positive outlook on life were revealed in his program.
