Matthew and Jenny Determan, of Spring, Texas, are the parents of a son, Owen Matthew Determan, born at 12:28 a.m., on May 20 weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measuring 20.5 inches in length. Welcoming Owen home is his big sister, Ellie. Grandparents are Duane and Denise Determan, of Haverhill, and Allan and Colleen Fegler, of Boise, Idaho.

Accidents

On Monday, May 26, a car driven by Matthew Mark Pluim, of Sioux City, was in the 600 block of East Main Street in Le Grand at the intersection with Highway 30 when it decided to initiate a U-turn and head back into Le Grand. Pluim over-corrected and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Cassie Lynn Gisi, 2893 Abbott Ave., which was located behind the Pluim car. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Pluim car was estimated at $500 while the Gisi vehicle received an estimated $2,500 in damage.

On Sunday, May 25, a minivan driven by Jonny Ray Moore, of Mechanicsville, was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Moore minivan was estimated at $15,000.

On Friday, May 16, a car driven by Kenneth Louis Salyer, of Urbandale, was southbound on Highway 330 when it collided with the rear of a car driven by Jareth William Klages, of Des Moines, which was also southbound in the outside lane. No injuries were reported. Salyer was cited for following too close. Damage to the Salyer car was estimated at $1,500 while the Klages car received an estimated $1,000 in damage.
