Best of the best at Skatepark Fest
Marshalltown’s finest skateboarders and bikers will compete at a local fundraising event.
The fourth annual Skatepark Fest will raise money for the local skatepark and it will be held at 1 p.m. June 15 at the Marshalltown Skatepark, located next to the softball complex on Sixth Street.
Lucas Baedke, organizer, said the money will go toward adding more ramps in phase two of the completion of the skatepark.
The event is similar to last year – there will be food, music, door prizes, a raffle and registered skaters and bikers will compete, Baedke said.
“There are some phenomenally talented young and older people that are going to be there riding, skating and competing,” Baedke said. “It will just be a really fun thing to watch.”
Baedke said he hopes the participation and audience will increase this year. Participating or watching the event will help support local children, Baedke said.
“(When kids use the skatepark)they are finding new ways to commit themselves to something or just apply themselves to something they can enjoy,” Baedke said. “It also keeps kids somewhere away from riding downtown or someone else’s property.”
Tickets are $5 for adults and there’s free admission for kids. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at Black Tire Bike Co., 117 W. Main St.
“It’s a lot of fun,” Baedke said. “I think if people show up they will be pleasantly surprised at some of the things young people can do.”
