Discs will be flying at Riverview Park Saturday
Beware of dozens of discs flying through the air Saturday at Riverview Park as Marshalltown prepares to host a big disc golf tournament.
The event is titled “Disc Golf Palooza 7: Ironman Edition” since competitors will compete in three 18-hole rounds.
Kurt Conrad, the tournament director from Cedar Rapids, said he expects at least 60 participants at the event. Conrad said the Riverview course is “100 times better” since it added nine more holes to make it an 18-hole course.
“It’s a very user-friendly course,” Conrad said. “It’s a fun course to play, but it’s also got a nice selection of shots.”
Competitors are expected throughout the state for the event. Conrad said early registrations have come from players in Davenport, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines. He said spectators are also welcome to the event.
Conrad said disc golf continues to grow as a sport, especially in Iowa.
“It’s getting bigger and better,” Conrad said. “Every year there’s more courses.”
The event is a Professional Disc Golf Association sanctioned contest. Registration is open to the public and all skill levels and begins at 8 a.m. with play starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Registration costs vary depending on the level of player and range from $25 to $40.
