Bobcat seniors Vaughn, Vaudt named all-district
Marshalltown seniors Lexi Vaughn and Taylor Vaudt were two of the more influential players in turning around a Bobcat girls’ soccer program that won just three matches three seasons ago.
Vaughn and Vaudt helped the Bobcats improve that number to 10 wins as juniors and Marshalltown recorded another winning record this past season, and both were rewarded for their play with a spot on the Class 3A all-district squad.
Vaughn, an Iowa Central Community College recruit, scored 13 goals and had two assists in being named to the all-West District first team, while Vaudt collected second-team honors.
Vaudt, who will play soccer next season at Simpson College, tallied one assist from her sweeper position but was more valuable in preventing the opposition from scoring goals.
The Bobcat senior helped Marshalltown (9-7) record five shutouts and hold its opponents to a 1.76 goals against average per match.
Marshalltown’s season ended Wednesday when the Bobcats were defeated 5-0 by No. 6 Waukee, which had two players – Alyssa Hewitt and Hannah McDevitt – on the West first team.
Class 1A Gladbrook-Reinbeck also had multiple players on an all-district team.
Rebel junior Nicole Adair landed on the all-Southeast District first team after leading the entire state with 103 points. She currently has 44 goals (second in the state) and 15 assists on the season and recently recorded a hat trick and the game-winning helper in G-R’s regional semifinal win over No. 4 Union Community.
Joining Adair on the all-Southeast District team were teammates Alyssa Christopher and Kyleah Dugan, who both earned spots on the second team.
Dugan is second on the Rebels with 18 goals and 15 assists, while Christopher has helped the Rebels to five shutouts and just 31 goals against in 17 games this season while also tallying an assist at the offensive end.
Tenth-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck (12-5) will try to earn the school’s first-ever state tournament berth Monday when the Rebels travel to No. 8 Solon for the Region 6 final at 6 p.m. The Rebels have won six straight matches and the regional semifinal win over the Knights avenged a 4-1 loss earlier this season.
