No. 4-ranked Fort Dodge sweeps ’Cats
FORT DODGE – Mallory Kilian pitched a one-hitter in the opening game and hit a home run in the second game, leading the Fort Dodge softball team to a Central Iowa Conference Northern Division sweep of Marshalltown on Monday night.
Kilian struck out eight and walked four in her one-hitter in the opener, a 2-0 victory for the Class 4A No. 4 Dodgers. Maddie Egli hit a solo home run as one of Fort Dodge’s three hits against Marshalltown hurler Cassidy Blackford.
Blackford struck out five, walked three and allowed two earned runs in the complete-game loss. Lexie McCown had the Bobcats’ only hit.
The Dodgers took advantage of six Marshalltown errors in the nightcap, an 8-1 triumph for the hosts. MHS pitcher Kaley Mead surrendered seven hits and three earned runs in the loss, walking two and striking out one.
Cassie Tjebben struck out seven and walked one, giving up just five hits in the win for Fort Dodge (9-0, 2-0). Lexi Astor was 2-for-4 with a double and Kilian homered, driving in three runs.
Maggie Carnahan was 1-for-3 with an RBI double to lead the Bobcats (1-7, 0-2). Kari Smith, Mead, Blackford and McCown added singles for MHS, which hosts Urbandale on Wednesday and Mason City Thursday.
