MHS sophomores split with Ames

AMES – Cody Mead homered and struck out 11 in a four-hitter, helping the Marshalltown sophomore baseball team split a Central Iowa Conference Northern Division doubleheader with Ames on June 16.

Mead surrendered just one walk and four singles, and the Bobcats backed him offensively in a 7-1 victory in the nightcap. Ames took the opener 11-1 in six innings.

In the second game, Mead was 2-for-3 with a home run, while Mason Huntley finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored. Luke Severson had an RBI triple and Tim Potter was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Reggie Johannes had a hit, drove in a run, stole two bases and scored twice.

The Bobcats (6-3) were limited to just four hits in the first game. Johannes, Devan Mann, Mead and Huntley each had a single, with Mann plating Johannes as Marshalltown’s lone run. Luke Severson took the loss from the mound.
