City council approves road maintenance service contract

The city was given $40,000 to its roadway maintenance fund on Highway 14 from the Iowa Department of Transportation.

City council members unanimously approved a 28E contract for roadway maintenance services for 14-miles of the highway from Iowa Avenue to Woodland Street Monday night.

Justin Nickel, public works director, said the money can be used for pavement maintenance, drainage maintenance, snow and ice removal or to maintain department standards for rural roads.

“It will be used at our desecration,” Nickel said. “It’s more of a payment to maintain streets from the Iowa DOT we can use for anything that fits the purposes of the agreement.”

The Iowa DOT gives the city funds for this stretch every year, Nickel said.

“It’s money to maintain the roads,” Nickel said.
