Murder trial begins in strangulation case
A jury has been selected and the trial has begun in the first-degree murder case against Marshalltown man Mathew Irving.
Irving is accused of killing local woman Rebecca Hall, 55. Hall’s body was discovered in the back of a van on East Main Street Road last July. Authorities said Irving confessed to strangling her.
Jury selection began Tuesday morning at the Marshall County Courthouse. Eight men and four women are serving on the jury.
If convicted, Irving faces life in prison without parole.
