Fritz, Mustangs march through Rebels, 13-0
GLADBROOK – East Marshall junior Mariah Fritz tossed a two-hit shutout and went 4-for-4 at the plate, leading the Class 3A No. 2-ranked Mustangs to a 13-0 victory over Gladbrook-Reinbeck in NICL West Division softball action Tuesday night.
Fritz (17-1) struck out nine and did not walk a batter over the seven-inning win. The Mustangs (22-3, 15-1) locked up their 17th consecutive victory by scoring four times in the first, fifth and seventh innings, adding a solo run in the sixth.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Madison White took the loss for her three innings of work, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk. She struck out two.
Kylee Hoskey finished 3-for-5 with five RBIs for East Marshall, and Maci Fritz added two more of the Mustangs’ 15 hits – all singles.
Hayley Weber and Hanna Christopher accounted for the only hits for the Rebels (1-22, 1-15). Katy Thompson went the final four frames, allowing seven hits and four walks.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck closes the week on the road with NICL West games tonight at West Marshall and Thursday at 2A No. 13 BCLUW. East Marshall visits South Tama tonight and hosts Grundy Center on Thursday. The Mustangs play two games Friday at the Roland-Story Tournament and two games Saturday at Marshalltown’s Bobcat Classic.
