MHS sophomores swept by Mason City
A grand slam capped Mason City’s seven-run rally as the Mohawks took both games of a Central Iowa Conference Northern Division doubleheader over the Marshalltown sophomore baseball team on Monday night, 12-6 and 9-0, at the MHS diamond.
The Bobcats led the first game 6-5 entering the top of the seventh inning before Mason City put up seven runs. The Mohawks had a single, five walks and a grand slam to finish the big inning for a 12-6 win.
Kyler Ladehoff took the loss on the mound, but led the Bobcats with a huge day at the plate. He was 3-for-4 with a home run, two stolen bases, two runs scored and two RBIs. Jack Greene was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Jake Sponselor had Marshalltown’s only other hit.
Ladehoff was 3-for-4 with a double in the second game, but the Bobcats got blanked. Four unearned runs saddled starting pitcher Mason Huntley with the loss. He struck out three in four innings.
Reggie Johannes, Luke Severson, Cody Mead, Dayton Slifer and Sponselor each added singles for MHS.
