Margaret “Tootie” Gibson, 87

Margaret “Tootie” Gibson, 87, lifelong resident of Green Mountain, passed away on the afternoon of Thursday, June 26, 2014, at the Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, with her family at her side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Green Mountain United Church of Christ with Dr. Kim Wilson officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Green Mountain Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born Margaret Chrystal on February 23, 1927, at the family home south of Green Mountain, she was one of two beautiful daughters born to Will and Myrtle (Gorsuch) Chrystal. She graduated from the Green Mountain High School in 1944. After graduation, she worked for Dr. Underkofler, DDS, as a chair assistant.

In August of 1958, she was united in marriage to Walter Gibson at the Green Mountain UCC. They made their home at Green Mountain their entire life where she was a member of the church and former member of the Happy Hour Birthday Club. Tootie enjoyed the outdoors, animals of all kinds, knitting and crocheting, cooking and treasured time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Carol Slifer of Green Mountain; two precious granddaughters: Lindsey and Rachael, her sister and best friend, Helen Chrystal; step-grandson, Gavin Slifer; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (Linda) Gibson of Houston, MO; Mary Thompson of Dubuque; Mildred Wall of Blue Springs, MO; and Sue Effie of Kansas City, MO; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Tootie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents; and 6 brothers and sisters-in law.
