No. 5 Rams rough up MHS softball
RUNNELLS – Southeast Polk senior pitcher Cassady Knudsen homered in the first game and tossed a no-hitter in the second game of the Class 5A No. 5-ranked Rams’ doubleheader sweep of Marshalltown on Wednesday night.
Hannah Parker pitched a one-hit shutout in the opening game, a 7-0 Southeast Polk victory, and Knudsen spun her second no-hitter of the season in the 10-0, five-inning nightcap.
Marshalltown’s only hit of the night came from Rachel Whaley in the opener. Kaley Mead took the lone walk issued by Rams pitching, that coming in the second game.
In game one, Parker struck out nine while Knudsen was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored. The Rams (24-9) racked up 11 hits off Cassidy Blackford, who walked five and struck out five for the loss.
Marshalltown (3-25), in its 13th consecutive loss, struck out six times and walked once against Knudsen in the nightcap. Mead allowed 12 hits and 10 runs – though only four were earned – while walking three and striking out three.
The Bobcats go to the Iowa City West Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
