Marshalltown Co. history subject of upcoming program

The Marshalltown Company’s history spanning more than six generations will be the subject of the Historical Society of Marshall County’s Third Thursday program July 17.

President Joe Carter will present “A History in the Making – 124 Years of Building the Best Brand in Construction Tools.” Carter will showcase the company’s founders, manufacturing, physical plant changes, products and more.

The public is invited and the program is free of charge.

Focusing on quality and innovation, Marshalltown Co. has grown to become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of construction tools.

The company’s tools have been the standard of quality since 1890 and are used by professionals and homeowners throughout the world for use with brick, concrete, drywall, plaster, tile, paint and wallpapering. These tools can be seen with the MARSHALLTOWN and QLT by Marshalltown labels.

Today, the company operates two manufacturing facilities, one at 104 S. 8th Ave., and another in Fayetteville, Ark. It distributes its products from its highly automated Armstrong Avenue facility, also in Arkansas.

Carter has been employed by the company for approximately 22 years, and was named president in 1998. A native of Hanlontown, he graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in industrial engineering, and also was awarded a Juris Doctorate (law degree) from the University of Arkansas. He and his family have resided in Marshalltown since 1995.
