Harriet Edler, 86

Harriet Edler, 86, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Funeral Home. Interment will be following the service at Melbourne Cemetery, with a luncheon following at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

Harriet was born February 17, 1928 in Marshalltown, IA, to Harry and Frances (Wherry) Mulcahy. She graduated from Melbourne High School and attended the Iowa Teachers College (UNI). Harriet was united in marriage to Howard Edler on June 23, 1946 in Melbourne, IA. They lived on a farm near Melbourne from 1946 to 1969, then moved to Marshalltown. Harriet did tailoring from her home, she enjoyed sewing for many, who became her friends.

Harriet was a member of Central Christian Church, Navy Mothers #824, American Legion Auxiliary # 122, and Christian Disciples Women and was on the VAC (Volunteer Advisory Committee). She enjoyed sewing, quilting and tailoring, but most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Harriet is survived by her five children: daughter, Linda (Tom) Wall of Marshalltown, four sons, Robert (Nancy) Edler of Des Moines,IA, John (Doris) Edler of Marshalltown, David (Sandra) Edler of Fremont, NE and Jerry (Ellen) Edler of Farmington, NY, 14 Grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard and one brother, Max Mulcahy.
