Arlene M. Otto, 96, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2014, at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.
Arlene was born July 16, 1918 in Barney, IA to Walter and Nellie (Throop) Foland. Arlene was united in marriage to Edward Otto on December 3, 1944. She worked at the Navy yards in Oregon for a short time then stayed at home as a homemaker.
Arlene’s faith was of supreme importance to her, she was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. She loved fishing and baking, everybody especially loved her rhubarb pie. Most importantly to her though was her family, she had many nieces and nephews she enjoyed spending time with.
Among those left to cherish in her memory are Arlene’s nephews: Dave (Cindy) Petrie of Marshalltown, Dan Petrie of Sunrise Beach, MO, Steve (Ramona) Otto of Santa Monica CA, Mark (Joyce) Otto and Skip (Jody) Foland of Oregon; nieces: Kathleen McCune of Des Moines, IA and Sis (Vick) Stockman of Oregon, a half-sister, Ardis O’Brien and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Otto and one brother, Eugene Foland.
