James H. Smock, 67, of Lago Vista, TX, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the Gladbrook Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes, 410 Johnston Street, Gladbrook, IA. Online condolences may be sent www.andersonfhs.com.

Jim was born June 28, 1947 to James and Wilma Smock in Clinton, Illinois. After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Navy and served two tours in Vietnam with the Navy CB’s. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and eventually settled in Gladbrook where he married Patricia Morgan and had two sons, Shane and Jamie. He had a long career at GTE phone company from 1973 through 1996. In 1996, Jim and his wife moved to Texas where they resided today.

In his younger years, he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, trapping and fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and continued to stay in touch with the many people he met over the years.

Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his wife, Pat of Lago Vista, TX; son, Jamie (Vanessa) Smock of Sully, IA; two sisters, Joyce Goett of St. Petersburg, FL and Linda (Bill) Armstrong of De Quoin, IL; one granddaughter, Greenlee Smock; her special niece Tonya Jo Branan and her sons, Vincent, Hayden and Eligh as well as five more nephews.
