Another preseason honor for North Tama grad Hefty

FAYETTE – Coming off its best season since the late 90s, the preseason honors are rolling in for the Upper Iowa football team, including North Tama grad Lucas Hefty.

The Peacock senior tight end was named to the Lindy Sports Preseason All-America Second Team and was just one just six Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference student-athletes on the list. The former Redhawk also made the Beyond Sports College Network’s (BSN) 2014 Preseason All-American Team.

Hefty is coming off a junior campaign in which he caught 65 passes for 846 yards and 10 touchdowns as UIU’s starting tight end. He also added three two-point conversions and was named to the NSIC South Division First Team and the Don Hansen NCAA Division II all-Super Region 3 squad last season. In his three years with UIU, the Traer native has pulled in 113 passes for 1,476 yards and 19 touchdowns.

The Peacocks finished 6-5 last year and 3-4 in the NSIC South Division. They open the season by hosting Minnesota State University Moorhead on Sept. 6 at 3 p.m.
