Online auction to boost Big Brothers Big Sisters
Heart of Iowa Big Brothers Big Sisters is holding an online auction over the course of the next week to raise needed funds as it starts its own endowment.
The Hubert A. Adams Memorial endowment will benefit from this auction, which is located on the Facebook page of Lynne Carroll, the local director of BBBS.
“We wanted to expose a different group of people to this,” Carroll said.
Carroll said they still need $1,790 to start the endowment, which would allow for funds to be drawn to help the future of the mentoring programs in BBBS.
The items in the auction include a ceramic tea pot from John Wells, a fabric piece by Helen Degner, autograph albums from the band Modern Life is War, a prime rib dinner for two at the Marshalltown Fire Department and several other unique items. Bidding ends at 4 p.m. Aug. 14.
The auction already raised $110 as a lucky person was able to have lunch with former Marshalltown High School star quarterback and current Southwest Minnesota State player Blake Gimbel.
Those who can’t access Facebook can call the Big Brothers Big Sisters office in Marshalltown at 641-753-6370.
The Adams Memorial Fund endowment was started by Hubert’s family with a donation of $2,400 from his estate earlier this year.
Carroll said they are always looking for school-based or community-based mentors in the program.
“It’s a wonderful experience to watch the growth and the progress of children through the years,” Carroll said.
