Eldon H. Wiese, 100, of Gladbrook, IA passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Westbrook Acres, in Gladbrook. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2014, at Peace United Church of Christ, in Gladbrook. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the Gladbrook Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes with a Masonic service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Peace United Church of Christ or Cedar Valley Hospice. Eldon was born January 12, 1914 in Crystal Township, near Gladbrook. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1932. He was united in marriage to Elsie Harms on June 10, 1937. She passed away in February of 1951. He later married Dorothy Cobb on October 12, 1952. He spent 60 years farming in rural Gladbrook until his retirement from the Century Farm in 1974. They moved to Gladbrook in the early 1990s. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, camping and was an avid Cubs fan.
Eldon was a member of Peace United Church of Christ all of his life, where he also served on the church board. He served on the Gladbrook School Board, several years as their president. He was also a long time and loyal member of the Mason Olivet Lodge #436, a 65 year member of the El Kahir Shrine, the Lions Club, Farm Bureau, Cattleman’s association, and president of the Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance.
Left to cherish Eldon’s memory are his wife, Dorothy, three daughters, Karen (Loren) Larson of Ames, IA, Carma Wiese of Marion, IA and Sandy (Douglas) Koester of Davenport, IA, five grandchildren, Cindi Larson and Lance (Lori) Larson, Tami Koester, Kraig (Shelby) Koester and Andrea (Troy) Petersen and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Wiese, sisters, Avis Dahms and Ina Moeller and a brother, Clarence Wiese.
