Schneiderman helps team to Swiss Pro A League title

LUGANO, Switzerland – Marshalltown native Matt Schneiderman averaged 12.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game during the best-of-seven finals of the Swiss Pro A League championship series in May, helping the Lugano Tigers to their fourth title in five seasons.

Schneiderman, a 6-foot-7, 245-pound power forward, tallied 17 points and eight rebounds in the deciding seventh game, helping Lugano defeat Benetton Fribourg Olympic, 92-88. The 1999 Marshalltown High School graduate also notched a game-high 22 points in an 87-77 victory in Game 4, and had a game-high 16 points to go with eight rebounds in a 63-59 loss in Game 6.

The Lugano Tigers led the Ligue Nationale de Basketball’s Pro A division with a 23-5 regular-season record, and then defeated the Geneve Lions 3-1 in the championship semifinals.

Schneiderman, a 10-year pro who played collegiately at Morningside and Northern Iowa, averaged 14.3 points and 5.1 rebounds with the Tigers this season. He was named to the All-League team for the fifth time in his career.

Schneiderman, 33, will return to Lugano for another season in the fall.
