Noon Kiwanis hear from parks and rec superintendent

The Kiwanis Club of Marshalltown “Noon” held its weekly luncheon meeting Tuesday at the American Legion Hall, 1301 S. Sixth St.

Past President Jim Bacino called the meeting to order. Gene Neven read the news and weather. The invocation was led by Mike Gowdy. Happy Dollars was donated by Deb Ewoldt, Laurel Phipps and Deane Adams.

Deane Adams introduced Chad Weir, recreation superintendent of Marshalltown Parks and Recreation as the speaker. Weir is excited with the many activities offered by Parks & Rec. including hosting state softball, youth golf and various lessons such as tennis, golf, art and swimming. Kickball and volleyball are popular too. Riverview Park offers camping, the Dog Park and bike trail. The skate park and movie in the park are also well attended. The Aquatic Center has experienced lower than normal attendance due to the cooler summer, but could be very busy if the August temps are hot.

Donations were collected for the Under Privileged Children’s Fund. Next week the club will hold the monthly board meeting.
