Kids get creative in the Egg On-a-stick Decorating contest
The clown wins the day.
Madeline Davis, 7, of Pleasant Hill, was the judge’s pick for the best egg for the Kid’s Egg On-a-stick Decorating held Wednesday in the Elwell Family Food Center at the Iowa State Fair.
Davis, a first-year entrant, spent two nights perfecting her decorative egg.
“We wanted to do a princess but the clown seemed easier,” she said. “I am happy it won.”
A hat made out of a cone topped with frosting and sprinkles completed the clown’s signature look.
“We weren’t sure the hat was going to stay on but we were glad it did,” said Davis’ mother, Patty.
The contest had 10 entries and was judged by a six-person panel. Second place went to Megan Smith for her snowman design.
The judges really liked the hat describing it as “creative and adorable.” Third place was Matthew Williams for his turtle design.
The first place winner received a $50 prize, second place received $30 and third place received $20.
