Tourney-rich schedule to greet ISU women’s hoops

AMES – The Iowa State women’s basketball team will be tested often this season as it takes on a slate that features 13 games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year.

The Cyclones will twice take on a pair of Sweet 16 squads in Baylor and Oklahoma State. ISU tangles with the Bears in Waco, Texas, on Jan. 13 and hosts Baylor on Feb. 28. The Cyclones head to Stillwater, Okla., on Jan. 31, before entertaining the Cowboys on Feb. 14.

Iowa State opens the season at Hilton Coliseum against USC-Upsate on Nov. 16. ISU battles in-state rival Drake at home on Nov. 18 and travels to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to face Iowa on Dec. 11.

ISU kicks off Big 12 Conference play against Kansas State in Ames on Jan. 3. The conference tourney runs from March 6-9.

South Tama County grad Madison Baier returns for her junior season after missing the majority of her sophomore campaign with an ACL tear in her right knee last year. The 6-foot-4 forward/center is the second-tallest player on the ISU roster and will be called upon to help fill the vacancy left by WNBA draftee Hallie Christofferson.
