Putney made state fair shine

I recently saw in the paper that John Putney resigned from his position after 20 years as executive director of the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Committee. I’ve had the pleasure to have known John for over 25 years, including his time as senator in the Iowa Legislature.

Having just visited the state fair last week, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize John for all his time and hard work in making the Iowa State Fair one of the best (if not THE best) in the nation. From new state-of-the-art buildings, to renovation and air conditioning of some of the old ones, the Iowa State Fair is now a showcase for the state of Iowa, of all that Iowa is and offers.

And with my wife being handicapped, I am particularly observant to all the smaller improvements in sidewalks, walkways and handicapped accessibility that the fair now includes.

So my thanks to John Putney for all his years of public service to the people of the state of Iowa. With all his leadership and hard work, the Iowa State Fair will continue to provide outstanding educational and entertainment opportunities for years to come.
