Twenty firms contacted for police building project

The RFQ is out on the street.

Requests for Qualifications (RFQ) to build a new police station in Marshalltown have been sent out to 20 different design firms.

Marshalltown City Administrator Randy Wetmore said he hopes in 60-90 days the city can have a firm under contract and ready to go with the project.

Depending on when the firm is done planning, the city will hold a special bond election next spring or summer.

“We want to make sure we get the drawings done and done correctly,” Wetmore said. “It’s moving along.”

The estimated cost of the project is $16 million, depending on the design work.

The location of the police station would be housed at 1203 S. Sixth St., a location commonly known as the old Crosby Pool site adjacent to the Legion Golf Course.
