Beaman Bingo needs a boost

The Beaman Lions Club needs help from our surrounding communities or a worthwhile community service project and fundraiser may come to an end.

Every Monday night the club sponsors Beaman Bingo. This event is open to everyone and is held at the Beaman Memorial Hall, 215 Main St. The doors open at 5 p.m. and games start at 6:15 p.m. We play 13 games each week and it only costs a minimum of $5 to play all of the games. We pay out a cash prize to the winner of each game, and we also give away nine free game packets throughout the evening. There is food available for purchase including loose-meat sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, popcorn, bars and soft drinks.

The only problem is that the attendance at this event has dramatically fallen off in recent months. For many years we drew 25-30 Bingo players to our games each week. Lately, we have had as few as 10 players. With so few players, we struggle to break even after paying out prize money, rent and state sales tax.

The club depends on the revenue generated by Beaman Bingo to fund many projects that our organization is involved in. The money raised from Beaman Bingo has been used to help residents purchase hearing aids and eye glasses. We have sent many children to Camp Hertko Hollow and Camp Courageous. We have partnered with BCLUW High School to send students to the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership conference. We sponsor an art contest at the BCLUW Middle School each year. We have donated hundreds of dollars to the Beaman community to help build our public library and Memorial Building. We have helped to pay for the playground equipment. We have helped to pay for landscaping at the Beaman Discovery Garden. Every year we help fund the many activities during Memorial Day weekend in Beaman.

Unfortunately, these projects will come to an end if attendance does not improve at Beaman Bingo. Beaman Bingo is an event for all ages. Your support would provide your family with some great bonding time and will teach your children about being civic-minded. For others, it is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Please consider joining us next Monday night at 6:15 p.m. You will have a lot of fun and help a lot of people in the process.
