MHS to welcome public for open house
Two Marshalltown High School student leaders are excited to be able to show off the school they love during an open house.
The event will be held Monday night and school families as well as the general public are invited to attend.
The night will include school tours, opportunities to interact with students and staff, games for people of all ages and have a pork burger supper.
Two of the main organizers of the event include Student Senate President Megan Riemenschneider and Jenna Jaeckel, both seniors at MHS.
“We want the community to see more of what’s going on inside at the school,” Riemenschneider said.
Both are excited to show the offerings at MHS, such as the Project Lead the Way science curriculum.
“They are creating new opportunities for us,” Jaeckel said.
The event will be begin at 5:30 p.m. with the ability to meet with teachers in their classrooms until 6:30 p.m. The outdoor activities will begin at 6 p.m. with many games, a car smash, an alumni table with old yearbooks and a raffle to win a free school activity ticket.
“There will be fun for all ages,” Jaeckel said.
This type of open house has been held for the past few years at MHS, but Jaeckel said they have added more events this year.
“We’re trying to add more activities to get the community more involved and get more people to show up,” she said.
This can also be a way for middle school students to get familiar with MHS before they become students there. The Roundhouse is still a construction zone and tours of the gym will not be part of this open house.
Guests should park in the east parking lot and head into the school. Outdoor activities will be held on the west side (near the main entrance) of the school.
